The Basics
What's the science?
UCLA psychologist Hal Hershfield has spent over a decade showing that most of us experience our future selves as strangers, and we make decisions accordingly. On brain scans, picturing the person we will be in twenty years lights up the same regions as picturing someone we have never met. When that gap closes, we save more, take fewer reckless risks, and treat ourselves more kindly. Writing to your future self is one of the simplest, most-studied ways to close it.
How does it work?
Write a short reflection each week using our prompt — a small letter to your future self. Once a month, those reflections come back to you in a physical envelope: your own past words returned. Over time, the practice builds a real relationship with the person you are becoming.
How much does it cost?
$12.99 per month for The Kind Edition in the US, or $14.99 per month with international shipping. That includes all weekly prompts, archive, and one monthly letter. Annual is also available: $129 per year in the US, $149 international, which works out to two months free.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Write to us through our contact form and please allow at least 3 business days to process your cancellation. Your past reflections stay in your account.

When do I receive my first letter?
Your very first letter is a welcome letter from us. It ships by the 5th of the month after you sign up. If you sign up in May, your welcome letter ships by June 5th. Delivery time after that is up to USPS, so if it hasn't arrived by the 20th, reach out and we'll help.
When do the weekly reflection prompts start?
Your first weekly prompt arrives on the first Sunday of the month after you sign up. If you sign up in May, your first prompt will be emailed on the first Sunday of June. That gives you a gentle runway to settle in before we ask anything of you.
When will my first reflection letter ship?
After a full month of weekly prompts, we compile your reflections into your first personal letter. If you sign up in May, your first reflection letter ships by July 5th. From then on, a new letter ships by the 5th of every month. Delivery is up to USPS, so if a letter hasn't arrived by the 20th, reach out and we'll help.
When will my letter arrive?
Your letter ships by the 5th of each month. Delivery time is up to USPS, so we can't promise an exact arrival date, and we're not able to track mail once it's on its way. USPS First Class typically arrives within about 7 days of mailing, and international shipping can take a few weeks. If your letter hasn't arrived by the 20th, reach out and we'll help.
What if my address changes?
Reach us through our contact form before the 25th of the month and we will update your shipping address for that month's letter. After the 25th the letter may already be printed, but contact us anyway and we will catch what we can.
About the Reflections
What if I skip weeks?
Your monthly letter will include whatever you did write, plus something special from us to you.
Is my writing private?
Yes. Your reflections are yours. We only use them to print your monthly letter.
Cancellation
How do I cancel?
You can manage and cancel your subscription anytime through our customer portal. If you'd rather, write to us through our contact form and give us at least 3 business days to process your cancellation. Either way, you keep all past reflections.
What if I cancel before my first letter arrives?
You'll still receive it. Your welcome letter is scheduled to ship during your first paid month, so cancelling afterward does not mean you miss it. We never charge you for a letter that has not shipped, and we always mail letters you have already paid for.
Do I get a refund for the current month?
Your current month's letter will still ship. Future months will not be charged.
I have an annual subscription. What happens if I cancel?
Your remaining letters from your paid year will continue to ship until your annual term ends. Your subscription will not auto-renew. We do not refund unused months on annual subscriptions: the annual price reflects a discount given in exchange for a full-year commitment.
